Rapper's fatal shooting leads to police arrest of a man

In connection with the shooting death of rapper Takeoff, police have detained a man and charged him with murder.

The 28-year-old Grammy-nominated artist was shot and killed in Houston, Texas, outside a bowling alley last month.

The singer was a "innocent bystander," according to Houston police, who said the gunshot was related to a game of dice.

Takeoff, the rap group Migos' youngest member, passed away, and both fans and musicians lamented his passing.

Using surveillance footage from the night of the shooting, Houston Police said during a press conference on Friday that they had captured Patrick Xavier Clark, 33.

Troy Finner, the chief of police in Houston, stated that "Clark] was there on the scene and he was in possession of a firearm."

Adding that the investigation was still underway, he urged any potential witnesses to come forward and provide the police with any information they may have.

In his appeal, Chief Finner urged, "Don't let the dread paralyze you." Step forward and speak up.

Houston's mayor, Sylvester Turner, expressed his hope that the arrest will offer some solace to Takeoff's family.

Takeoff, he continued, was more than just a performer; he was also a "son, brother, cousin, and friend, as well as a mentor to those in the music profession."

Born Kirsnick Khari Ball, Takeoff was a member of the Atlanta-based, top-charting rap group Migos, renowned for songs including Stir Fry and Bad and Boujee.

In 2018, they were nominated for two Grammy Awards: best rap album and best rap performance.

Fans and artists paid tribute to Takeoff following his passing, including Drake, Kid Cudi, Dave, and Rick Ross, who recalled him as a "young legend" and the creator of the "Migos flow," a distinctive form of rapping.

After a dispute broke out at the conclusion of a private party following a dice game, three persons, including the 28-year-old singer, were shot outside a downtown Houston bowling alley at 02:30 local time (07:30 GMT) on November 1.

According to Sgt. Michael Burrow of the Houston Homicide Division, Takeoff was not a participant in the dispute or dice game that happened outside the alley and was unarmed.

Sgt. Burrow remarked, "He was an innocent bystander."

The shooting left a woman and another guy with non-life-threatening wounds.

22-year-old Cameron Joshua was also detained in connection with the incident on November 22 and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm.
