The public has been urged to accept and use the updated One Ghana Cedi currency by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
On Tuesday, December 6, the BoG declared in a statement that it has modified the GHS 1 coin with improved security measures.
On December 12th, 2022, the improved GHS1 coin will go into circulation.
The currency's design, including the coat of arms on the front and the scale of justice on the back, is reminiscent of the GHS 1 denomination now in circulation.
The improved GHS1 coin has a silver interior and an exterior layer of gold metal. The coin features a noticeable rough edge and a latent image that may be seen underneath the Scale of Justice on the back.
When tilted, the latent picture transforms from a star that is radiating to a symbol for the One Ghana Cedi that is positioned between two stars. Up until the previous coin is gradually withdrawn, the enhanced GHS1 coin and the current coin will co-circulate.
The statement said, "The Bank encourages use of the coins by the public."
