At the Burma Camp, GAF detains an impostor
A individual named Rufai Abubakar has been detained by Military Police officers after he attempted to enter a military post inside Burma Camp while acting as a senior military officer.
The guy, who was wearing a military camouflage outfit and phony Lieutenant Colonel ranks, claimed to work at the Northern Command Headquarters and that he was going to the Air Force Base to make travel arrangements to Tamale.
As he got out of a bus and walked to the Air Force Base after driving into Burma Camp, the suspect was being closely watched.
The on-duty guards noticed his suspicious behavior and questioned him. After giving some rambling answers, he finally admitted he was not a service member.
Additionally, he admitted to impersonating a senior military officer in order to swindle Mr. Abdallah Abdul Fatahu, from whom he had obtained a sum of money totaling Three Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH $3,000.00) under the pretense of enrolling him in the Ghana Armed Forces.
The defendant had fake military IDs, business cards, and other documents bearing his name in his possession at the time of his arrest. Several certificates, fake Ghana Armed Forces recruitment application summary reports with the names of frauded people, military uniforms and accoutrements, and a toy pistol were found during a follow-up search by the Military Police at his two residences in Ablekuma Fan Milk and Olebu, respectively.
The Police CID has since received the suspect, Rafui Abubakar (photos attached), for additional investigation and prosecution. But given that his two wives, who lived in Ablekuma and Olebu, each believed their husband to be a legitimate military officer, it's possible that many more people were duped by his impersonations and fraudulent schemes.
