Parents Teacher Association (PTA) Western Region Chairman Isaac Cobbina revealed that senior high school (SHS) pupils are now required to purchase bread and sugar to supplement the uncooked beverages offered in some of their schools' dining halls.
In an interview with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Connect FM's Omanbapa morning show, he said that once children enter school, parents must assume more responsibility for their children as the situation worsens.
"Conditions in our senior high schools are deteriorating. It is past time for parents to assume some responsibility for their children in the classrooms because the government is powerless and headmasters are unable to protest. Children are required to bring sugar and bread in addition to the uncooked liquids supplied in the dining halls while I speak to you. We cannot escape from the fact that porridge has frequently been offered without sugar or bread," he said.

Students from the many SHSs across the nation have begun to report their enrollment.
In schools, the problem of feeding students remains difficult. Mr. Isaac Cobbina claims that parents occasionally have tokens taken from them in order to help the schools.
"We have discussed this with the parents, and as we speak with you, we are taking tokens from them to help the principals buy lunch. I beg parents to support and assist their children in the classroom. They ought to be able to purchase adequate supplies for their charges to go through the semester. We can no longer act as though everything is fine in the classrooms. The headmasters are afraid to speak out for fear of being singled out, but as parents, we cannot remain silent and let our children suffer, he said. By Sascovibesgh.
