President Akufo-Addo has selected the Volta Region to host the country's Independence Day celebrations, according to Mr. Lord Commey, Director of Operations at the Office of the President.
He claims that the decision is in keeping with the president's personal pledge to rotate the event among the Regions in order to strengthen national unity.
When he brought members of the event's national planning committee into the Region on Friday to brief traditional authorities on the development, he let them know.
Mr. Commey addressed the Asogli Traditional Council first, followed by other regional stakeholders, including Mr. Divine Bosson, the chief executive of the Ho Municipality.
"We are here to notify you that the President has decided to honor the Volta people by having the Region host the 66th anniversary of Ghana's independence. This important celebration of Ghana's independence cannot continue to be held alone in Independence Square. He has determined that the Volta Region, Ghana's "oxygen city," will be honored this year.

In order to ensure that the celebration is a "full manifestation of a national character," he said the meeting's main goal was to solicit support from local stakeholders, particularly traditional authorities.
Mr. Commey also praised the benefits to the neighborhood's economy.
It is an honor to know that this event in Volta will be taking place in our territory, the warlord of the Asogli State, Togbe Adzie Lakle Howusu XII, remarked.
He claimed that the incident would go down in history and bring the honor of independence to the Region.
"Those of us who witnessed independence are incredibly honored to witness this celebration. Come and join us, those of you who were present at the first celebration. We appreciate the President's selection of Volta as a result. We appreciate you very much," the Warlord remarked.
Togbe Howusu praised the committee, which included the heads of several security agencies as well as other important figures, and expressed his confidence in their excellent performance. He also pledged the support of the Asogli community.
"We'll be there for you. We'll do all in our power to help you make this event a success. We firmly believe that this event will be unparalleled with both our and your support.

When the team visited the House of Chiefs in the Volta Region, Togbe Tepre Hodo, the president of the House, stated it was "excellent news" that Volta would host the event.
He declared that the Region would support the event entirely in order to make it the greatest.
"I can guarantee you that the Volta Region has plenty to contribute in terms of demonstrating devotion to this wonderful mother Ghana, and we will use all of our resources to make this celebration the greatest," the speaker said.
Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, led the group to the House of Chiefs, and the team then went to the brand-new Ho sports stadium to see how construction was going.
When the team arrived, work on the 5000-capacity facility, which had previously slowed, was almost finished.
The Office of the President's Director of Operations visited the location and provided any required recommendations while advising stakeholders to use the event to promote the Region.
