The former Minority Leadership had to be charged, according to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), or he would have had to quit from his position.
He said, however, that he was unable to step down and had to make sure that James Kuste Avedzi, Muntaka Mubakark, and Haruna Iddrisu took over the positions of Minority Leader, Minority Chief Whip, and Deputy Minority Leader, respectively.
After accompanying former president John Dramani Mahama to a public lecture at Chatham House, Mr. Nketia spoke to the NDC UK/Ireland Chapter in London. He said, "My priority in Parliament is to see our parliamentary caucus working together and also cooperating with the Speaker of Parliament. Why did it take so much work to elect an NDC member as Speaker of Parliament?
There are undoubtedly some benefits, and you may take advantage of them when your leadership works with the speaker. Therefore, we cannot have a situation where the NPP is working with the speaker while our NDC leadership is having issues with the speaker. What would you do if you were given a party whose parliamentary leadership was not cooperating? I'm not about to quit, so either you make the necessary modifications or you're out.
Earlier, Mr. Asiedu Nketia gave an explanation for the decision to make the adjustments, stating that the economy, energy, and infrastructure have been the main subjects of discussion recently.
He claimed that the party thought it important to put their best men—those who are knowledgeable about these issues—forward in order to achieve this. By Sascovibesgh
