According to the 2021 District League Table (DLT) report, the Volta region received a total score of 62.82 percent, placing it 10th out of the 16 regions in the country.
According to the results for the different sectors, the region ranked fifth for energy, tenth for sanitation, ninth for governance, ninth for water, seventh for nutrition, fourteenth for education, and fifteenth for health.
At the pre-launch of the District League (DLT) Table for 2022 and the release of the 2021 DLT report, both events were held in Ho and sponsored by UNICEF Ghana and the National Development Planning Commission.
The report aims to highlight the significant differences in social development levels across the nation and spur policy debate and action to lessen inequality in the various districts.
Twenty-two (22) chosen indicators were evaluated in the context of seven sectors: governance, water, sanitation, education, health, and nutrition.
With a total score of 71.81 percent, the Ho West District outperformed the other 18 Districts/Municipalities in the Volta Region.
Despite finishing top in the Region, the District came in 49th out of 261 MMDs nationwide. Ho the Municipality came in second place with a score of 70.42 percent in the area and 63rd nationally.
North Tongu District finished 75th overall and third in the region with 69.83 percent.
Ketu North and Hohoe Municipality placed fifth and sixth, respectively, while South Dayi finished in fourth place.
Bright Atiase, Deputy Director of the Monitoring and Evaluation division of the National Development Planning Commission, expects that the study would inspire the individual districts to excel in their underperforming areas.
While Hohoe Municipality was listed as one of the worst performing districts in education, with 7.29 percent and 254th place nationally, Agortime Ziope District came out on top in the region with 37.32 percent.
With a score of 52.18 percent in the nutrition department, Akatsi North came out on top. With a score of 23.14 percent, Keta Municipal ranked first in the health sector for the region, but 41st overall.
Ho Municipality won the energy category, earning a perfect score overall at both the regional and federal levels.
Ho West District, which scored 97 percent and was ranked 18th nationally, had the strongest under-the-water sector performance in the area, while Keta Municipality had one of the worst scores among MMDs, coming in at 261st.
With a score of 96 percent and 22nd place nationally, South Dayi District was declared the winner in the region under the Sanitation assessment.
With a score of 49%, the Agortime Ziope was among the districts with the lowest ratings in the sanitation assessment. With an 80 percent score and a ranking of 26th overall in the governance sector, Ho West District was also the best out of the 18 Districts and Municipalities in the area.
Ketu South Municipal received a governance assessment score of 0.22 percent and was ranked 260.
