The People's National Convention's (PNC) National Youth Organiser, Mark Ewusi Arkoh, has sided with the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, in the contentious debate over protocol lists for computerized school placement and selection.
This list has sparked concerns about bribery and corruption, and there are already increasing calls for its revocation.
However, Mr. Ewusi Arkoh warned that if "caution is not exercised," the elimination of the protocol list could have an impact on educational advancement.
The automated placement system's protocol cannot be cited as a contributing factor in cases of fraud, he insisted.
"In my opinion, the protocol list is essentially rewarded or given to persons who deserve it rather than the goro lads as purported.
"The intervention of protocol list supplied to them by their chiefs and several clergymen including important political players is one best opportunity given to many students from disadvantaged places who never may afford to access top schools.
"I consequently disagree with those calling for the repeal of the school placement system."
In order to "examine and prosecute those responsible for the alleged bribery that took place," he encouraged Ghanaians to support the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
"We cannot disparage the Minister of Education's positive deeds merely because someone accepted a bribe.
I thus appeal to well-meaning Ghanaians to help the minister, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, and the Ministry fulfill their duties in order to aid in the growth of Ghana.
