The Ghana Drunkards Association, also known as the Beverage Consumers & Bar Owners Association of Ghana, is starting a three-day tour in the Western Region due to "recent allegations of alcohol-related events."
In order to "help bring rationality to the consumption of beverages in the region," the Association said it intends to speak with its members there.
The death of a young man during a drinking competition, the burst stomach of a young man after drinking, the murder committed by a drunkard, and most recently the handcuffing of a patron by a police officer who runs a drinking establishment were all mentioned by the Ghana Drunkards Association in a press release on Wednesday, February 8.
The executives must travel to the region to inform members about responsible and safe drinking in order to help reduce alcohol abuse in the area. "These and other reports coming from the Western Region has drawn the attention of the National leadership of the association," the statement reads.
Regarding the most recent occurrence, the Association requested that Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), invite the officer and administer the "appropriate interrogation and sanctions."
According to the press release, the trip will culminate on Thursday, February 23 at two significant bars in the area.
