Legon Ransford Yaw Gyampo, a political science professor at the University of Ghana, has been harshly critical of minority members of parliament (MPs) who were unable to maintain their position and reject the president's picks for cabinet positions on Friday.
In parliamentary democracies, he claimed, lobbying is only permitted if it advances a worthy cause.
Hence, in parliamentary democracy, one cannot and should not be persuaded to abandon a good cause in favor of a bad one.
During TV3's The Keypoints on Saturday, March 25, he said, "Since [the Minority] had a good cause, I was hoping that they were going to live according to that cause."
"Lobbying and attempting to persuade the opposition to support your position in a vote is typical in every parliamentary democracy, but if you have a good cause and are persuaded to sacrifice that good cause, then there is something seriously wrong with your head," said one observer.
He believes that because the members of Parliament represent certain non-personal interests, they must have behaved in accordance with those interests.
By doing so, the Political Scientist observed that nearly all significant identifiable groups in the nation were calling for a reduction in the size of the government, and that the chance presented itself with the selection of ministerial candidates.
He claimed that this chant had spread beyond national borders to the point that even international officials were joining in.
